Christmas in Vaughan: 5 Things to Do with the Family

Dec 16, 2019 / Lifestyle

The holidays are fast approaching, and you may be looking for ways to spend quality time with the family. While your homemade dinners and gift-giving sessions are bound to be joyful, they probably won’t fill the days you have with your kids. Why not make the most of the season together by getting out of the house for some Christmas fun? It’s the perfect way to stay active over the holidays—and make plenty of new memories.

If you’re looking for things to do with your kids in Vaughan, here are five events you’ll want to check out this season…

1) Christmas at Kortright

On December 19th-21st, enjoy some outdoor holiday festivities at Kortright Centre for Conservation. Take in the wonder of this gorgeous woodland preserve as it fills up with beautiful lights and jolly costumed characters! Your kids will love hopping on a horse-drawn carriage, warming up around a bonfire, and enjoying a variety of seasonal crafts and activities. General admission will be $29, and kids will get in for $24.

2) Christmas at Black Creek Pioneer Village

This December 21st to 23rd, take part in the Christmas activities planned at one of Vaughan’s top historic attractions. Black Creek Pioneer Village will come to life with Victorian holiday traditions, and your family will love every minute of it. Once evening strikes, the village will light up with candles, lanterns, and warming fires. Mulled cider and gingerbread cookies will be served, and live musical performances will cap the night off nicely.

3) Winterfest

This list wouldn’t be complete without a nod to the holiday celebration at Ontario’s premier theme park. While Canada’s Wonderland is a magical place at any time of year, it will be especially cheery from now until December 31st. Visit the elf village, ride the holiday carousel, shop the vendors at the market, or see a live-action performance of “A Christmas Carol.” There’s so much to do at Winterfest that the day passes (which are priced as low as $21.99) are a steal.

4) Strap on your skates

One of the best things about Vaughan in the winter is the outdoor recreational activities. Skating is a great example. What better way to enjoy the holidays with family than at one of the many indoor and outdoor rinks across the city? Vaughan Iceplex—with its top-notch facilities, snack bar, and hockey pro shop—is a local favourite. That said, it’s hard to go wrong with any of our community centres, from Dufferin Clark to Father E. Bulfon.

5) Do some Christmas shopping

Last but not least, consider bringing the kids along for some last-minute holiday shopping. It’s a great way to get your little ones into the spirit of giving—and if you go right after school, you can beat the worst of the crowds. Check out Vaughan Mills Shopping Centre for all your favourite retailers, from H&M to Best Buy to Saks Fifth Avenue. You can also get into the holiday spirit by heading to the Snowman Factory, a Woodbridge shop full of whimsical Christmas decor.
